In its monthly June meeting, the J.C. Blair Health System Board of Directors voted to promote chief operating officer Adam Dimm to chief executive officer (CEO), effective July 1, 2017. Current CEO Jason Hawkins and chief financial officer (CFO) Deborah Shughart will continue as consultants for a period of time for special projects, as needed.
“Adam's promotion is part of a well-thought-out, long-range plan for leadership succession,” said board chair Fred Price. “In the past three years, Dimm has operationalized J.C. Blair's strategic plan and has engaged with the community. He understands the community's needs and is ready to lead J.C. Blair into its next chapter as the local leader in healthcare for the region.”
Under the current leadership team, J.C. Blair has built the new Convenient Care Center, upgraded and expanded the Emergency Department, and opened a heart catheterization lab. New equipment has been added and upgrades have been made to nearly every department in the hospital. Dozens of new physicians have joined the medical staff. Patient volume and revenue as well as cost savings have increased significantly. The team has championed quality improvements as well, which has led to J.C. Blair's national 4-star ranking and top 100 rural and community hospital recognition.
"Deb and I want to thank the J.C. Blair board for this opportunity to be a part of J.C. Blair's leadership team for the past two years. We have had a great experience facilitating a regional approach to providing healthcare for residents of both Huntingdon and Fulton counties, and we feel we have accomplished our goals," said Hawkins. "Adam has been the operational leader behind the exciting changes J.C. Blair has experienced in the past three years. The timing is right for him to step into the CEO role."
Adam joined J.C. Blair in 2014 as PinnacleHealth's director of strategic management services, when J.C. Blair became an affiliate of PinnacleHealth in May 2014. He was named vice president and chief operating officer in January 2015 when the boards of J.C. Blair and Fulton County Medical Center signed an agreement to share the leadership team of Hawkins and Shughart as CEO and CFO.
"I sincerely appreciate the vote of confidence to step into this new leadership role," said Dimm. "I have learned a lot from Jason and Deb, and will continue to use their expertise when needed. We have a solid operational team, and together we will continue to develop the organization that will focus on improving quality, access and affordability of healthcare for the communities we serve."
"The shared leadership model has worked for us," said Price. "This creative approach enabled us to retain our local identity while providing sustainability and growth in the region. We especially appreciate Jason and Deb's rural health leadership expertise in facilitating our joint venture with the Broad Top Area Medical Center Federally Qualified Health Center. Their rural health expertise and Adam's ability to facilitate the process helped us achieve the outcome we needed."
In addition to Adam’s promotion, Jeff Trapp is being promoted to director of fiscal services.
Future projects on the horizon for the hospital include obtaining level-four trauma hospital status, improving access to oncology services, surgical services growth and specialty physician recruitment.
