JC Blair Memorial Hospital’s 9th annual golf tournament on August 1st was again a sellout with 136 golfers, over 75 sponsors and 28 volunteers participating in a very hot, but lively event sponsored by the Hospital Medical Staff.  This year the outing netted nearly $30,000 toward the purchase of a Hemoglobin A1c Analyzer for the hospital Laboratory Department.  Information from this test is used to monitor patients with diabetes to provide good glycemic control which minimizes the progression and chronic complications of diabetes such as heart and kidney disease and blindness.  This analyzer will provide state of the art results for the 7,000 tests run in the lab each year.

Participants enjoyed a day of golf, meals, awards and other games and prizes.  Everyone had a chance to win a Cobra driver just for taking a test swing.  Dr. John Cook was the lucky winner.  And Charlie Bierbach won the 50/50 drawing and donated his half back to the event.  Tri-Star Motors sponsored “Drive for the Chrysler” which gave $5 for every test drive of the Chrysler vehicles on display at the tournament.  Even Steve Huston checked out the competition to add to the total.

The top finishers in Division 1 were sponsored by Strickler’s Ice, Water and Cold Beer.  The team included Ed Strickler, Ryan Strickler, Al Weyant and Sean Jackson.  Second place in Division 1 was sponsored by Clark Accounting and included Greg Ferguson, Dave Fyock, John Goodman and Mike Wityk.

Winning first place in Division 2 was the team sponsored by AIG Valic and included John Wolanski, Larry Mitchell, Tim Sunderland and Jack VanNatta.  Second place was sponsored by Clearfield Bank & Trust and included Robb Ritchey, Ron Rinker, Bill Wood and George Wetmiller.

Prizes were also awarded to the 9th place winners – in recognition of the tournament’s ninth year.  The ninth place team was sponsored by MJEM’s Photography and the members were Mary Jane Smith, Burgess Smith, Bill Landis, and Eric Swanger.
