J.C. Blair Invites Community to MRI Open House
J.C. Blair’s Radiology Department invites the community to an Open House of the new Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Suite on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Guests will have an opportunity to meet the MR technologists and radiologists, tour the new MRI Suite and view the intricate details of internal organs that the new studies produce. Refreshments will be served.
The new MRI suite replaces the MRI trailer that was stationed just outside the Radiology Department at J.C. Blair. No longer will patients have to go outside to go into the trailer to have an MRI study. “It will be a much nicer environment for our patients,” J.C. Blair’s Chief Radiologist Maria Pettinger, M.D., said. “This new suite looks like a new addition to the building. It’s seamless.”
The new GE MRI HDe system features a 1.5 Tesla high field magnet with a wider flared opening for greater patient comfort. The updated computer software allows for stronger gradients which showcase more detailed, quality MRI images.
Two full-time dedicated MRI certified technologists, Holly Rhodes and Elaine Homan, have completed dedicated training on this specific magnet and have developed all the necessary safety protocols. In addition, Pettinger completed 40 hours of training on this new MRI system.
