Power of Pink Breast Health Event
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital’s Mammography Service Leader and Alliance for Breast Care member Penny Shope shows Elaine Baker of Hesston what mammograms reveal and describes the size of lumps that women discover by accident and the size that are detected by mammograms. Over 20 women attended the event which partnered the Alliance’s Power of Pink Breast Health Event with a Women’s Heart Health Screening at the Mount Union Methodist Church on Saturday, July 11, 2009. Shope, along with J.C. Blair Chief Radiologist Maria Pettinger, M.D., and Centre/Huntingdon Tapestry of Health Community Educator Tina Cunningham, educated the women about the importance of self-breast exams and regular screening mammograms, risk factors for breast cancer, and resources for free mammograms and treatment if breast cancer is detected. The next Power of Pink Breast Health Event will be Wednesday, July 29, from 6 – 8 p.m. at the Broad Top Community Center. Please RSVP to (814) 643-8833 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Alliance for Breast Care at J.C. Blair and its Power of Pink outreach events are supported by a grant from the Pittsburgh Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
