JC Blair Receives Proceeds from Cindy Taylor Memorial Softball Tournament

A $5000 check from the Cindy Taylor Memorial Softball Tournament was presented to the Alliance for Breast Care at J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital digital mammography campaign. The annual softball tournament was established in memory of Cindy Taylor by her family and friends. Taylor was a nurse at J.C. Blair for 35 years and one of the founding members of the Huntingdon Women's Softball League. Cindy was first diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 1997, then again in January of 2008 and she passed away in July of 2008. The tournament benefits J.C. Blair's breast health programs and a scholarship for a local student interested in pursuing a career in nursing.

Tussey Mountain High School graduate Kelsey McCue was this year's recipient of the Cindy Taylor Nursing Scholarship. She is currently attending Mount Aloysius College to pursue a degree as a registered nurse.

"This is something my mom would have wanted. She would be so proud," Melissa Hobbs, Taylor's daughter, said while discussing the generous donation with hospital staff.

This year's tournament was hosted by the Huntingdon Women's Softball League on Saturday, August 25, 2012.
