J.C. Blair Board Appoints New CEO
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital’s Board of Trustees has appointed Joseph J. Peluso from Greensburg, Pennsylvania, as the Hospital’s new chief executive officer. He will begin his administrative duties at J.C. Blair on Tuesday, February 24, 2009.
“The board worked closely with QHR, our management services firm, who conducted a national search to identify the right candidate for J.C. Blair and our community,” said John Coursen, chairman of the board of trustees. “This is a challenging time to find hospital administrators who are interested in relocating. We are fortunate to attract someone like Joe to this leadership position. He is well seasoned in hospital management in Pennsylvania.”
Peluso brings more than 31 years of hospital management experience to the hospital. He spent the majority of his career at Westmoreland Health System in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, where he served as President and CEO for 18 years. More recently he held the positions of Chief Operating Officer at Wellmont Health System in Kingsport, Tennessee and President/CEO of Lee Regional Medical Center in Pennington Gap, Virginia. His particular expertise includes strategic planning, fiscal management and communications.
“I look forward to being at J.C. Blair, applying the skills I have acquired over the years, and working with the excellent leadership team at J.C. Blair,” said Peluso.
Peluso is well respected in the healthcare industry as a frequent author, presenter and preceptor. He has written over 50 articles on strategic planning and quality improvement strategies, and has delivered over 50 presentations on strategies for the evolving healthcare marketplace, transformational leadership, and building healthy communities. He has been a preceptor at the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health, the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, and Penn State University’s Health Planning and Administration Program.
He is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the Hospital and Health System Association of Pennsylvania (HAP), the American Hospital Association and the Hospital Council of Western Pennsylvania.
Active in the community throughout his career, Peluso has served in leadership positions with the United Way, chamber of commerce, Rotary Club, Boy Scouts, community college, and other organizations in Westmoreland County, and has received numerous awards for his volunteer service.
He earned his bachelors degree from St. Francis University in Loretto and his master’s degree from St. Vincent College in Latrobe. He has been married to his wife Connie for 22 years and has two children: Franca, a sophomore at St. Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana; and Joseph, a senior a Greensburg Central Catholic High School.
“At this time we would also like to take this opportunity to express our appreciation to Interim CEO Leland Farnell for his very dedicated services for the past six months,” stated Coursen. “He has done a superior job leading the organization administratively while the hospital conducted this search for a new permanent CEO.”
