J.C. Blair Auxiliary Awards Bette Jane Heine Scholarship
The Auxiliary to J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon has announced the tenth annual Bette Jane Heine Nursing Scholarship recipient, Kayla Wright. She is the daughter of Scott and Carol Wright of Cassville.
Kayla will attend the Pennsylvania State University--Altoona Campus in the fall to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Nursing. She graduated from Southern Huntingdon County High School in June. While at SHCHS, Kayla served as vice president of the National Honor Society, editor of the yearbook and treasurer of the science club. She was also a member of the art club, Big Brothers Big Sisters club and FFA while lettering in softball during her high school career.
Kayla also enjoys volunteering as a junior member of the Trough Creek Valley Volunteer Fire Company. She is also active in her youth group at church and competes in summer league and traveling league softball. Kayla was the 2011-2012 Huntingdon County Fair Queen. She assists with fundraising for the Huntingdon County Humane Society in her spare time.
The Bette Jane Heine Nursing Scholarship was established in memory of Bette Jane Heine by the Detwiler family in 2002. Mrs. Heine was renowned as a civic leader and for her service to the community throughout her adult life.
Scholarship selection committee members were: Sally Oberle, Chair, Joanne Krugh, Bonnie Lakso, Miranda Peruso, Larry Powell and Judi Romano.
