Grugan Memorial Funds First Award

Pam Grugan awarded Juniata College senior Megan Russell, of Belle Vernon, PA, the first Dr. Scott Grugan Memorial Award at the annual Juniata College HOSA (Health Occupations Students of America) year-end picnic recently. The $500 award was made possible by the Dr. Scott Grugan Memorial Fund at the J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Foundation. Russell was chosen through a competitive essay competition judged by the scholarship committee of the J.C. Blair Auxiliary. Juniata students who are members of HOSA, have volunteered in the Huntingdon community, and have been accepted to a graduate program in healthcare, wrote essays on how their volunteer experience has shaped their career choice.

Dr. Scott Grugan was the chief radiologist at J.C. Blair when he died in 2005. He was a committed volunteer in the community and internationally. Memorial contributions and the proceeds of the annual Grugan run/walk in October have funded this Foundation award. HOSA students, including Russell who served as President of HOSA this year, volunteer at the annual event as well as in many other hospital and community programs. Russell's essay described her decision to become a physical therapist. She will begin a doctoral program this fall at Columbia University, New York.
