Community Invited to J.C. Blair Artwork Unveiling and Dedication
The community is invited to the unveiling and dedication of an artistic rendition of the story of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, September 7 from 5:00 Ė 7:00 p.m. in the middle lobby of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital. Refreshments and tours of J.C. Blairís new Cardiac Rehab and Bone Density programs to follow.
To commemorate J.C. Blair Memorial Hospitalís 100th Anniversary, Huntingdon County artist Donald Dietz has created a series of three, large scale, acrylic paintings. These paintings were created to capture the essence of the Hospitalís history and celebrate its place in the Huntingdon community. The first panel depicts the original entrance to the hospital in 1911 when the Hospital admitted and cared for its first patients. The middle panel features John Chalmers and Kate Fisher Blair, namesake and founder of J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital, with the Blair Building in the background. The artist used creative license in placing 2011 plans for the Hospitalís new Emergency Department in the hands of J.C. Blair. The third panel shows the new main entrance of the hospital and signature tower which houses the new maternity, surgery, and behavioral health suites.
This project was made possible by a grant from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and with the support of the Huntingdon County Historical Society and the Huntingdon County Arts Council.
