Estate Planning Questions Addressed by Area Attorney at J.C. Blair Foundation Event
J.C. Blair Memorial Hospital Foundation recently hosted a free estate planning seminar about how to “Leave a Lasting Legacy” with Attorney Kim Kitchen from BMZ Law, Huntingdon. Attorney Kitchen focuses her practice on estate administration and estate planning and offered attendees the tools needed to prepare an estate plan that meets their goals and interests. She is also the Executive Director of Development at Juniata College and volunteers for several local organizations including the Auxiliary to J.C. Blair Hospital and the Foundation.
While only approximately 42-45% of Americans report having a valid will, Attorney Kitchen shared that “the will is the cornerstone of an estate plan”. She suggested that “every person over the age of 18 who is of sound mind should have a valid, up-to-date will.” Kim shared a wealth of additional information about estate planning and charitable giving, including wills, trusts, individual retirement accounts and life income funds.
During the question and answer session, she was asked about the online will maker services. While online software may allow you to craft a will, attorneys are professionals that are knowledgeable about current laws in your state and can advise you on the best options to meet your estate planning goals. Kim suggests that you speak with an attorney that you trust and are comfortable with to be sure your wishes are correctly documented.
Estate gifts to J.C. Blair have played a large part in improvements that have been made to equipment and renovations at the Hospital in recent years. Contact Marsha Hartman at the J.C. Blair Hospital Foundation at (814) 643-8888 for more information on how you can “leave a lasting legacy”.
