Ultrasound is best known for looking at babies before they are born but can also be used to look at other parts of your body using sound waves to produce images.
An arthrogram uses a special x-ray machine called a fluoroscope to help the radiologist guide a needle directly into a joint. X-ray dye is injected into the joint and additional images are then obtained with CT or MRI to better see the inside of the joint and the soft tissues around the joint.
X-rays are a form of energy that you cannot feel but allow the radiologist to look at the bones and soft tissues inside your body in a 2D image.
